In July of 2019 a group from CPC set out for Costa Rica for a mission trip. Ten ladies traveled on behalf of the congregation to serve and establish relationships with two communities: Idisia Iglesia DivinoSalvador Calle Blancos (Church of the Divine Savior) in San Jose, and Los Diques in Cartago.
Los Diques is a community in Cartago that is housed on a dike in an area where residential construction is prohibited by the government because it is hazardous. In addition to the risk of a failing dike, drugs, unstable job conditions, and violence are prominent in the area. For two days our group worked with children in Los Diques, leading them in Bible Story lessons, crafts, games, and songs. We expected 60-70 kids each day but instead saw over 100. We also provided a snack each day and handed out school supplies and soccer balls (see #themissionball for more information). It was a humbling and fulfilling experience to share God's love and laughter with them all day. We have had a relationship with Los Diques since 2011 but this was our first visit there; it was definitely not our last!
Idisa in Calle Blancos hosted our group in their church for the week, showing us hospitality that rivals what we claim to have here in the south! We worshiped with them, participated in Sunday School, and had a lot of time to fellowship and bond. We also painted the inside and outside of the gate wall and bars, and power washed the front of the church. Our group came to Idisa as strangers but left as family, and we look forward to our continued ministry together.
