Rob is a Columbia native and cradle Presbyterian. He holds a B.A. from the University of South Carolina, and a Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Prior to coming to Cherokee, Rob served as Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator with Amedisys Hospice is Columbia. He and his wife Liz, the Youth and Children’s Director at Cherokee, have four children who are also involved in the congregation. Rob loves writing, reading, football, baseball and debating theology.
Liz Cely, Pastor of Children and Youth
Elizabeth, known to most as Liz, grew up in Bay City, Michigan. She received her undergraduate degree at Alma College in 2000, and her Master of Divinity Degree in 2004 from Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education, now known as Union Presbyterian Seminary, in Richmond, Virginia. She was ordained by the PC(USA) in July 2010. She has worked as the part-time Director of Youth Ministry and Outreach at CPC since October 2008 and has recently added Director of Children’s Ministry to her role here. Liz is married to Robert Cely, Jr., originally from Columbia, South Carolina. They have three sons, Wylie, Thomas and Samuel and a daughter, MaryMac. Judy Ball, Church Administrator
Judy was born in Leesville, SC and raised in Georgetown, SC and has lived in Lexington for 34 years. She attended Lander College in Greenwood, SC where she met her husband of 33 years, Wayne. They have 2 grown daughters and 2 granddaughters. Judy is a lifelong Lutheran and is a member of Pisgah Lutheran Church. She has many years of Customer Service experience. Julie was born and raised in Lexington, SC. She has lived in this community her whole life. She’s been playing piano and singing in church ever since she was 12 years old. Music has always been her passion and she grew up loving to perform and take piano and voice lessons. By 21 years old she was the primary pianist for her church’s (Calvary Baptist in Lexington) choir and sang lead soprano in the praise and worship team. In 2005 she became a fulltime music minster.
From 2005-2012 Julie attended Crossroads Baptist in Gilbert as the church’s lead pianist and children’s choir director. She developed, implemented and led the praise and worship team in addition to planning and directing 2 children’s musical performances per year.
In 2012 she became the choir director and pianist for Greene Street UMC in Columbia, SC. While here her focus was on accompanying and directing traditional hymns and vocal choir arrangements.
Throughout the years Julie has donated her time and talent as a pianist for various local school choirs during performance festivals and for many other church and community events. For the past 10 years she has played for graduation ceremonies at USC. She has also been a featured pianist/keyboardist for several show runs at the Village Square Theatre in Lexington, SC.
In 2016 Julie was led to and accepted the position of music director here at CPC. With her background of praise song and tradition hymn worship, CPC is the perfect fit for her family. She is happily available to discuss her love for God and music anytime and is always looking for voices and musicians to add to the church’s worship services.

Nich, with his wife Katie, and four children, Will, Charlie, Penny, and Lucy, moved to Lexington in 2014 after being a lifelong resident of the Upstate of South Carolina. He is an educator and works for Lexington Richland 5 as a magnet coordinator for Irmo High School. Nich, with the help of his wife, lead the adult Sunday School class. He enjoys spending time educating children and adults, and spends a lot of time playing his ukulele or mandolin with his family. Jimmy Hendrix has lived in Gilbert all his life. He and his family are celebrating being in business over 55 years. He is the president of Town & Country Service, Inc., which includes a convenience store and an automotive shop in Gilbert. Jimmy and his wife Barbara are charter members of Cherokee Presbyterian. They have two children Aaron and Lindsey, and three grandchildren, Bryson, Avery, and Caide. Jimmy services as usher, liturgist and membership elder. Barbara sings in the choir. Married to Charline. Have lived in the Lexington area for the past 30 years. Graduated from University of South Carolina 1974. Retired from Department of Justice in 2006. Have been a State Constable for the past 11 years.
Ronald S. Bartlett was born in the Bronx, NY. He grew up in Baltimore, MD where he met Carolyn when they were 13 years old. They have been married for 50 years. Ron worked his way through the Presbyterian-related Waynesburg University as a photographer, graduating in 1968. Ron was drafted and enlisted in the Air Force as an intelligence analyst in 1968, he then went to Officer Training School in 1970. Hi earned a Masters Degree from Cal State in 1987.
Working in the intelligence community most of his career, Ron took time out for multiple tours on a combat crew flying in B-52s. He flew 88 combat missions during Vietnam. In December 1972, he flew two missions over Hanoi, North Vietnam in the Linebacker II
campaign that was credited with ending the war and gaining the release of 591 POWs. Ron also flew as the mission director of our nation’s top airborne reconnaissance platform, the RC-135. The family then moved to Clark Air Base in the Philippines where
he become operations officer and then commander of a joint intelligence collection squadron.
Selected as a Fellow to the Director of the National Security Agency (NSA), Ron remained in intelligence assignments and over the span of his 27-year career, he was involved in 32 wars/crises. His last assignment was as director for military support at NSA where he was responsible for multi-billion dollar defense programs. He retired in 1995 as a colonel and moved to Lexington, SC. His family moved 18 times in 27 years.
God has blessed Carolyn and Ron with two children and six grandchildren. Ron and his son, Heath, were partners in Bartlett Financial in Lexington for 17 years Ron retired again at the end of 2017. Daughter, Heather, is a school teacher and Southern Baptist
pastor’s wife in Varnville, SC.
Laura Jordan, Missions
Laura was born in Maryland, but has lived in South Carolina for over 25 years. She and her husband David have two daughters, Mallory and Brooke, and two miniature long-haired dachshunds. They are charter members of Cherokee Presbyterian Church. Laura owns a meeting and event planning company, which services clients worldwide.
